Govt expected to introduce Australia-style student loan scheme
09/09/2004 - 07:55:03Senior education sources have reportedly said that the establishment of a student loan scheme in Ireland is inevitable following the OECD’s call for a reintroduction of third-level fees.
The body has recommended the move in a review of the Irish third-level sector.
Reports this morning said the reintroduction of fees was unlikely due to widespread opposition to the move, but education sources believed an Australia-style loan scheme would be introduced.
Under the Australian scheme, students repay the cost of their college education with payments linked to their income after graduation.
