Waterford Wedgewood fined in US

Waterford Wedgwood's American arm has been ordered to pay $500,000 (€408,000) to the office of the New York Attorney General.

The company was accused of conspiring with two department store chains, including the owners of Bloomingdale's and Macys, not to supply a third chain of stores - Bed, Bath & Beyond - which had wanted to sell Waterford Wedgwood products.

According to US competition rules, companies are not allowed to enter agreements that prevent competitors from offering choices to consumers.
