Pharmaceuticals see ISEQ on the increase

The ISEQ ended the day up 75.9 points at 5260.61, with the pharmaceutical sector performing well.

Elan was up €2.50, or 18.66%, at €15.90, while WCRX, formerly Galen, saw gains of 24c, or 2.8%, to close at 8.80.

Ryanair was up 7c, an increase of 1.72%, at €4.13, despite the announcement from low-cost airline Germanwings to launch rival flights between Dublin and Germany.

On the news that Waterford Wedgwood's American arm has been ordered to pay $500,000 (€408,000) to the office of the New York Attorney General, for conspiring with two department store chains, the troubled luxury goods company was down 1.38% at €0.14.

The financials performed poorly, with Bank of Ireland making the most significant loss, closing down 15c, or 1.39%, at €10.64.

AIB was down 6c at €12.75, Anglo lost 10c to end the day’s trading at €12.84, while Irish Life & Permanent was down 10c at €12.25.

Building materials group CRH showed an increase of 12c to €17.96, but it was a poor day for one of the market’s other main movers, Kerry, which closed down 10c at €17.55.
