Talks due over Athens ambulance strike

Greek government officials will meet with representatives of state ambulance drivers in Athens this afternoon to try to resolve a dispute over pay.

The drivers are giving the country’s government a headache just nine days before the start of the Olympics by holding a series of rolling strikes.

They are demanding the same increased payments that have been afforded to the police, fire department workers and military personnel on duty during the Games.

Eight so-called Olympic hospitals in various parts of the Greek capital are on a 24-hour alert while the strikes are continuing.
