Williams make improvements to car

04/08/2004 - 09:46:45
Williams have promised improved cars for the Hungarian Grand Prix despite the summer testing ban.

Technical director Sam Michael has revealed his team are working flat-out during the summer break to rush through improvements after a disappointing season so far.

Williams, who have won nine constructors’ championships since their formation in 1972, are struggling to retain their traditional top-three placing in this year’s standings.

Michael is determined to turn around the team’s fortunes having taken over as technical director from Patrick Head mid-season.

The Australian is reported to be considering a change to the distinctive ‘walrus’ front wing, but he would only confirm improvements are in the pipeline.

He said: “We are doing everything possible so that further developments will be ready in time for Budapest.

“There will be new components that should help us during the start phase. Plus we have developed some new aerodynamic and mechanical components.

“We have to do everything possible to increase the performance of our cars.”
