Ireland facing EU action over fee for planning submissions

The European Commission is reportedly planning to take Ireland to court over the imposition of a €20 fee for making submissions on planning matters involving Environmental Impact Statements.

Reports this morning said the commission believed the fee was in breach of an EU directive.

The reports also said that the EC had warned the Government before the fee was introduced that it was against EU law.

Ireland is reportedly the only EU country that imposes a charge on members of the public for making submissions relating to a development that requires an Environmental Impact Statement.
