Govt gets EC ultimatum on planning fees

The European Commission has giving the Government an ultimatum regarding the €20 fee charged when members of the public make submissions on planning applications.

Brussels have said the charge is inappropriate and a breach of EU directives. It has also said it will lodge papers at the European Court of Justice if it is not removed.

Environment Minister Martin Cullen is taking legal advice. He said: “We haven’t made a final decision on that yet. We don’t accept the view that the commission has taken.”
