Coastguard investigating oil spill off Galway coast
04/08/2004 - 11:31:39The Irish Coastguard is investigating reports of an oil spill near Mweenish island off the coast of Co Galway.
Local residents had reported the incident to the coastguard, which sent a helicopter to photograph the scene today.
The oil is believed to have leaked from a nearby wreck.
The extent of the spill is unknown, but pollution control equipment has been sent to the scene.
