Brinks workers reject proposals to end ATM dispute

04/08/2004 - 11:30:00
Workers at the Brinks Allied security firm have voted to reject proposals designed to resolve a dispute over the introduction of new security vans.

The workers voted by a two-to-one majority to reject the proposals this morning.

Their trade union, SIPTU, had urged them to accept the deal, which was negotiated during five hours of talks at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday.

The matter will now be referred to the Labour Court.

The Brinks workers are refusing to operate the new security vans introduced last week in an effort to combat a spate of armed robberies.

The workers claim the vans and new security arrangements leave them at increased risk during such robberies.
