A knight like King Arthur
King Arthur
Director: Antoine Fugua
Cast: Clive Owen, Keira Knightly, Ioan Gruffudd, Mads Mikkelsen, Joel Edgerton, Stephen Dillane
Cert: 12.
Once again we are gathered around the Round Table for another telling of the story - or legend, since there is one school of thought which insists the Good King, Guinevere, Lancelot, Galahad , Merlin and swords in the stone in the lake never existed - and though it has some good-ish moments it is strangely lacking in real excitement or involvement.
It was shot largely in Ireland so it looks good, but it is a film which drags alarmingly. The makers chose to take a different approach to the story to that done so often in the past … this is King Arthur with warts and all rather than King Arthur as your dashing and romantic hero.
The cast do their best but somehow Owen lacks charisma and fails to convince as a dashing swashbuckler.
It was intended as one of the summer’s major blockbusters, but, alas, the King is dead!
Star Rating: 2/5
