Poor starts for Clarke and Harrington

24/07/2004 - 13:31:40
Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington have both had poor starts to their third round in the Nissan Irish Open.

Both needed some of Paul McGinley's magic, he fired a third-round 66, to rub off on them if they were to get in the hunt for a title last won by an Irish player by John O'Leary in 1982.

But it did not happen early on. Clarke, three under overnight, did birdie the long second, but he bogeyed the first, third and seventh and then doubled-bogeyed the 419-yard ninth to turn in 41 and at one over.

Harrington, four under at halfway, bogeyed the first and third and with that fell eight adrift of Lonard, who had yet to tee off again.
