Savage targets top six for City

15/07/2004 - 08:40:01
Robbie Savage has targeted a top-six finish for next season as he looks to put a “worrying summer” behind him.

The Birmingham midfielder will today sign a new four-year contract, ending the speculation surrounding his future after Everton attempted to lure him from St Andrews.

After stalling for eight weeks, Savage was quick to respond after boss Steve Bruce made it clear he could be tempted to let the Wales international go if the offer was right.

Savage thrashed out the situation with Bruce yesterday, with his delight heightened by the fact he has been given the all-clear to play in the club’s pre-season campaign after undergoing a back operation.

“It has been a bit of a worrying summer what with my back op and the contract,” stated Savage.

“But it has all come to a head and the best news for me is that my back operation went well, so I am in full training now and ready to play again later this month.”
