Bohs earn away draw in UEFA Cup
Levadia Tallinn 0 Bohemians 0
Bohemians gave themselves a good chance of progressing in the UEFA Cup with a 0-0 draw in tonight’s first qualifying round first leg match in Estonia.
The Eircom League Premier Division side started off in the right manner with a couple of shots on the home goal in the first minute.
But Levadia quickly gained confidence and made their first dangerous attack in the second minute when young striker Ats Purje was clean through in a one-on-one with Seamus Kelly – but the Bohs goalkeeper produced the save.
Purje had another chance to put the home team ahead five minutes later when he went dangerously close with a shot from out wide.
Bohs had their first dangerous attempt to open the scoring three minutes later when Glen Crowe’s header from a corner flew inches wide of the target.
And in a lively opening Levadia went close in the 12th minute – but Kelly blocked Vladimir Voskoboinikov’s shot.
Vitoldas Cepauskas tried a volley in the 27th minute from fully 40 yards which Kelly only just managed to push past the post.
At the other end Bohemians’ Kenneth Oman tried to surprise Levadia’s keeper Artur Kotenko with a scissor-kick in the 37th minute – but Kotenko caught the ball without any problems.
The Irish side controlled most of the second half, with Levadia having only a handful of chances.
Bohemians went closest in the 54th minute when Crowe’s cross found David Morrison, who headed just inches wide of the goal.
Levadia had a similar chance in the 66th minute when Marius Dovydenas got a good cross from Voksoboinikov, but his header too flew closely past a post.
Bohemians finished the game the stronger and although they failed to find the target, they will fancy their chances of continuing in the competition.
