Garcia hopes to blow up storm tomorrow

15/07/2004 - 15:16:53
Sergio Garcia is hoping the wind blows tomorrow to help his bid to close the nine-shot gap between himself and the leaders at Royal Troon.

The Spaniard had just one birdie in a four-over round of 75, which left him a long way behind early leaders Paul Casey and Thomas Levet who both shot 66, but felt his score deserved to be a little better.

“I would have liked to have shot a little bit better than I did but I feel okay,” said Garcia. “I tried my hardest and that’s all I can do.

“I didn’t hit the ball great but I don’t feel that I deserved as bad a score as I got. With a couple of good breaks here and there it might have been a 70, but I hit three or four tee shots which got a bad bounce and a tricky lie and that cost me some bogeys.

“I just have to go out there tomorrow and put in a good round to get myself back in the tournament but there are three days to go and nobody wins it on a Thursday. Hopefully the wind will blow and ring the field closer together.”
