Kenny attacks Govt over state of health service
07/07/2004 - 11:38:26Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has launched an attack on the Government over the state of the Irish health service.
Speaking in the Dáil this morning, Mr Kenny said the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, should be ashamed of himself for spending millions on health with nothing to show for it.
“A €96m wing of the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown remains substantially
idle [and] a brand new health centre costing €48m in Ballymun has been lying vacant since it was finished 18 months ago, despite the fact that the North Area Health Board has paid €5.25m rent,” he said.
However, Mr Ahern rejected the criticism and insisted that the health service had improved significantly in recent years.
