07/07/2004 - 08:01:15
A group appointed to investigate the practices of estate agents and auctioneers is due to meet for the first time today.

The group was appointed by Justice Minister Michael McDowell to make recommendations for new legislation aimed at cracking down on bad practices like “gazumping” and the issuing of unrealistic guide prices.

It has been asked to look at the possibility of establishing a code of ethics for estate agents, a regulatory body for the profession and a system for dealing with complaints.

The group includes industry representatives and consumer bodies.
