Govt announces housing plan for rent allowance recipients
07/07/2004 - 13:49:58The Government has announced plans to make local authorities responsible for meeting the long-term housing needs of people currently receiving rent allowance.
The Fianna Fáil/Progressive Democrats coalition said the system would be introduced on phased basis from September.
It said the move was designed to reduce dependence on the rent allowance scheme by forcing local authorities to meet the housing needs of recipients.
