McCartney celebrates Beatles film anniversary
Paul McCartney reunited with cast members of the first Beatles film A Hard Day's Night yesterday, on the 40th anniversary of the movie's world premiere.
Accompanied by his wife Heather, McCartney met with actors Victor Spinetti, John Junkin, David Janson and Isla Blair; executive producer Denis O'Dell; Betty Glasow - responsible for styling the Fab Four's famous mop top haircuts in the film; and photographer Robert Freeman, who designed five Beatles album covers.
McCartney, 62, confessed today's screening in London - which also marks the release of a new DVD version of A Hard Day's Night - was the first time he had seen the film since it was made.
He said: "I haven't seen it in 40 years. I mean, I've seen bits of it on TV, but I never ever go to the cinema.
"I don't even listen to my old songs. I've written far too many to keep them all in my head.
"And I'm too busy writing new songs."
McCartney laughed and joked throughout the film and even had to be told off by Heather, who told him to "stop heckling" - before he snapped back: "It's my film, I can do what I like."
Afterwards, the singer gushed: "It's so lovely to see you all again and the film looks so great. It's a beautiful occasion."
McCartney also spoke about his recent performance at the Glastonbury Festival, which marked the end of his recent European tour.
McCartney, who went down a storm at the seminal British event, said: "Glastonbury was really great.
"I'd never been there or played there before and It was great. I love that kind of hippy thing."
