Film festival begins in Palestine tomorrow
Brazilian director Walter Salles is to present his latest film The Motorcycle Diaries as the opening film at the inaugural Ramallah International Film Festival (RIFF), it was announced today.
RIFF is unique in that it will also offer a springboard to the cultural and educational life in the Palestinian Territories.
Those in attendance at the festival will include Vanessa Redgrave.
The festival, which begins on July 8 at the newly-built Cultural Centre in Ramallah, runs until July 14.
The RIFF marks the first ever major international film festival to be held in the Palestinian
Territories.
The opening night gala will feature a special screening of Walter Salles’ acclaimed biopic of Che Guevara, The Motorcycle Diaries, and include a performance from internationally-celebrated musician Samir Gibran.
Festival Patrons include Omar Sharif, who commented, “The Palestinian people are close to my heart. Hopefully one day the children will be able to live in peace. This Festival is very important in sustaining civil societies and offering hope.”
