Two fifths of computer software in Ireland illegally pirated
07/07/2004 - 09:48:30The Business Software Alliance has claimed that almost half of all computer software used in Ireland has been copied illegally.
The alliance said a global survey by the research firm IDC had found that 41% of software used in Ireland was pirated, compared to the EU average of 37%.
The BSA said Ireland was the world’s largest software exporter and piracy was seriously undermining the Irish software sector.
It said most piracy was caused by businesses using more copies of a particular computer programme than they are licensed to use.
