Montoya bounces back after accident
03/07/2004 - 13:00:12Juan Pablo Montoya recovered from a hefty accident in practice to take fastest lap in today’s pre-qualifying for the French Grand Prix.
Montoya wrecked his Williams in a high-speed shunt yesterday morning but recovered to claim the quickest time in pre-qualifying, which determines the running order of qualifying proper.
The Colombian lapped Magny Cours in one minute 13.377 seconds, pushing world champion Michael Schumacher into second.
McLaren’s new car showed well in the session with David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen third and fourth respectively.
BAR’s Jenson Button was sixth while Montoya’s Williams team-mate Marc Gene, standing in for the injured Ralf Schumacher, ran wide on his way to ninth.
