Task force recommends end to alcohol sponsorship

A GAA task force has recommended the phasing out of sponsorship deals with alcohol companies in a move that could spell the end of Guinness’s links with the All-Ireland championship.

Guinness signed a new two-year deal to sponsor the hurling champions last month. However, the GAA task force has now recommended that any such deals be limited to two years and eventually phased out entirely.

The task force has also advised the GAA to establish structures to address alcohol and drug-related problems at national, county and club level and devise a code of conduct for GAA licensed premises and GAA functions at external venues.
