Zenden keen on staying in England

28/06/2004 - 13:54:33
Holland international Boudewijn Zenden will reject a move to Fenerbahce in favour of staying in the Premiership, according to his father.

The Chelsea midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, is currently preparing for Holland’s Euro 2004 quarter-final against Portugal but does not appear keen on a switch to the Turkish side when he returns.

His father, Pierre, told Middlesbrough’s official website, www.mfc.co.uk: “Fenerbahce are calling him all the time but he’s not interested, but he’s most interested in staying in England.

“We’ll get Euro 2004 out of the way and then see what Boro and maybe other teams in England have to say.”

Zenden himself admits he is keeping his options open.

“I’ve had a very good time at Middlesbrough, it has been positive for my career. I have one year left on my contract with Chelsea and, in theory, should go back to Chelsea this summer.

“I have several options but I have to see and wait what happens.”
