Lennox hails Cork City heroes
Brian Lennox hailed Cork City’s progress to the second round of the Intertoto Cup as one of his proudest moments since getting involved with the club.
“We have always said that we want to go places. Now we are actually doing something about it,” he told the Evening Echo.
“We are walking the walk and not just talking the talk. This is a very proud night for Cork City FC and a very proud night for me.
“The players gave it their all out there. We always set our goals high and the players delivered on those goals tonight.
“We are not getting carried away because it is only the first round but it is an historic achievement for Cork City and we should take time to reflect on that.
“This has been a trip to remember and the way the team performed was something special. We won both legs. It’s magnificent and the players and coaches deserve great credit.”
Lennox also paid tribute to the 200 plus fans who made the trip to Malmo: “Our supporters always go the extra mile and were tremendous tonight. They were out numbered by Malmo fans but still drowned them out. We have reached a milestone with this win. Now we can set our goals a little higher next time.”
The Cork party will depart Cork for Holland for the next round on Thursday morning with the game taking place on Saturday.
