Lobby group calls for single parent scheme review
22/06/2004 - 12:26:56A pressure group representing single parents has called for a review of the One Parent Family Payment scheme.
Open, a network of more than 70 organisations representing lone parents, claimed a recent study the group had carried out found that the scheme was failing some of most vulnerable members of society.
The research claimed the One Parent Family Payment, introduced in 1997, was failing to meet some of its main aims and objectives.
Open said the study found that single parents receiving the payment had the highest rate of consistent poverty among all social welfare recipients.
