Labour call on Govt to reverse cutbacks

The Labour Party has called on the Government to reverse cutbacks in hospital beds in order to alleviate the strain on accident and emergency departments in the eastern region.

Around 120 patients were left on trolleys at A&E departments in the Greater Dublin area yesterday and reports this morning said one patient found his trolley taken after temporarily leaving it to go to the toilet.

Labour spokeswoman Liz McManus said today that the situation had now reached crisis proportions and the Government should reopen closed units and ensure that the necessary staff are in place to meet the needs of all patients.
