British man killed in Saudi shooting
06/06/2004 - 19:41:16A British man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Saudi Arabia today.
The UK's Foreign Office said the two were attacked in the capital Riyadh.
A spokeswoman said: “Saudi authorities have confirmed that one British national has been killed and one injured in an attack in Riyadh. Embassy staff are urgently trying to confirm the identities.”
The unidentified gunmen struck in a “popular” neighbourhood of the capital Riyadh, according to a police chief.
The killing comes a week after a terrorist attack left 22 people, most of them westerners, dead.
That outrage sparked spiralling oil prices around the world amid fears for the security situation in the desert kingdom.
