Wexford win shocks Lillywhites
Wexford 0-12 Kildare 0-10
Wexford struck another blow for the underdogs at Croke Park with a Leinster SFC win against all odds against Kildare.
The Model County were buoyed by the display of Westmeath against Dublin in the previous game and pulled off their own giant-killing act in a dour game.
It came as no surprise that Matty Forde was their star man and the Kilanerin man notched up an impressive 0-7 for the day.
Forde was it as early as the second minute when he put Wexford into the lead with a fine point.
Wing-back Darragh Breen, Willie Carley and Forde hit more points to send Wexford into a 0-6 to 0-5 half-time lead.
It looked as if Kildare's experience would pull them to victory when points from Karl Ennis and Morgan O'Sullivan put Kildare back ahead at 0-7 to 0-6 before Lillywhites legend Glenn Ryan was sprung from the bench.
Both sides continued to trade points and they were back level at 0-8 apiece by the 55th minute.
That's when Wexford really got going with Forde, and his namesake Pat Forde, hitting 0-4 between them in the final quarter hour to seal a deserved two point win.
