Two die in head on crash in Antrim
Two people have died in a head-on road crash in Northern Ireland.
The victims, a woman aged 32 and a man believed to be in his early 20s, died when their cars collided on the A8 Belfast to Larne road near Ballynure, Co Antrim.
Another man was tonight fighting for his life in hospital. His condition was described as critical.
The deaths brought to 74 the number of people killed on Northern Ireland’s roads this year.
The woman who died was from the Larne area. She was driving to work at Belfast International Airport when the collision occurred with the other car carrying tow men.
As police appealed for witnesses, senior officers urged other motorists to take extra care in a bid to avoid more carnage.
Inspector Harry Millar said: “I’m not attributing blame to any particular driver at the moment and our investigations are ongoing.
“I must take this opportunity to appeal to everyone on our roads today to think about how they are driving and think about what senseless loss of life might arise out of carelessness, speed, drink or whatever reason.”
