Given plays winning Hand
Gloved Hand is Royal Ascot-bound after springing a 20-1 surprise on her debut in the EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Nottingham today.
Kieren Fallon described James Given’s charge as “the best filly he has sat on this year” according to the trainer, and has advised him to run her in the Queen Mary Stakes.
Castelleto, who had the benefit of racecourse experience, looked like landing the spoils when she went on from Speed Of Sound two furlongs out, but Gloved Hand proved too strong in the closing stages.
She won by a head, with Colonial Girl seven lengths adrift in third.
Said Given: “We’ve always thought she was a nice filly. We’ve been slightly slow at getting our two-year-olds out this year. We just wanted to make sure things were going well first.
“It looked quite a competitive race beforehand so to win like that was most encouraging.
“Kieren’s telling me to take her to the Queen Mary and that she is the best filly he has sat on this year, so all being well we’ll be off to Ascot with her.”
