Research highlights drug-driving problems

Researchers at University College Dublin have claimed that driving under the influence of drugs is a significant problem in Ireland.

The researchers said a study of 2,000 motorists, who were stopped by gardaí on suspicion of drink-driving, found that 15.7% were under the influence of one or more drugs.

Cannabis was found to be the most common drug detected in these samples and the highest level of positive tests was in the under-25 age group.
