Hauliers discuss fuel price rises with Oireachtas committee
02/06/2004 - 13:10:49The Irish Road Haulage Association has met with the Oireachtas committee on enterprise and small business to discuss the increasing cost of fuel in Ireland and throughout the world.
The association has claimed that recent rises in the price of petrol and diesel are crippling its members and threatening their livelihoods.
It has already called on Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy to reverse the five-cent increase in fuel taxes that he introduced in last December’s budget.
Speaking after today’s meeting, spokesman Jimmy Quinn said it wanted the Government to come up some type of short-term measure to help hauliers survive the current situation.
