Survey highlights cross-border wage disparity

A survey has found that IT workers in Belfast are among the lowest paid in the world and receive much lower salaries than their counterparts in Dublin.

The survey, conducted on behalf of Invest Northern Ireland, found that IT salaries in Belfast were higher than those in Budapest, Prague and Bangalore in India, but lower than in all other cities surveyed.

The survey found that a junior programmer in Belfast earns around €26,000 per annum, compared to €44,000 in Dublin.

A senior programmer in Belfast earns €51,500, compared to €66,500 in Dublin, while a head of IT attracts a salary of €91,250 in Belfast, but €107,250 in Dublin.
