Four Irish soldiers fined for misconduct in Eritrea
13/05/2004 - 11:51:02Four members of the Defence Forces have been fined for personal misconduct and breaking UN regulations in Eritrea.
The soldiers were facing the charges following separate UN and Defence Forces investigations into allegations that Irish soldiers were mixing with local prostitutes.
Four soldiers admitted the charges, while one was cleared of any wrongdoing.
The Defence Forces said the men had received fines ranging from around €100 to two days’ pay and the incidents had also been placed on their records, which would seriously affect their prospects for promotion or involvement in other overseas operations.
