Positive results from BOI and Elan see Iseq up

The Iseq index was up 30.35 points to 5,153.62 in Dublin this morning.

AIB was up 18c to €12.10 while Anglo Irish was down 2c to €12.63. Bank of Ireland was up 10c to €10.10.

Earlier this morning, BOI reported an 8% rise in pre-tax profits to €1.27bn.

The bank also reported strong growth at its rationalised UK arm, Bristol & West, and a pilot scheme to provide forex services to the Canadian Post Office.

Construction stocks were mixed with CRH up 5c to 1739, Grafton was flat at 600.

Construction firm McInerney, who yesterday reported a strong trading outlook for the year, was down 5c to €4.75 and Kingspan dropped 2c to €4.50. CRH was up 11c to €17.45.

Pharmaceutical firm Elan reported reduced losses in Q1 and a positive outlook for Q2 this year. Its shareprice rose 65c to €17.25 on the news.

Following the collapse yesterday of low fares carrier Jetgreen, Ryanair saw its shareprice up 7c to €4.50.
