Immediate petrol price increase unjustified - Labour
13/05/2004 - 16:45:03The Labour Party has said the immediate increase in petrol prices is unjustified.
Oil prices are rising due to concerns about instability in Iraq and Saudi Arabia., but Labour's Consumer Affairs spokesperson Kathleen Lynch has said, as petrol is purchased well in advance, there should not be an immediate hike.
Ms Lynch said: "The crude oil market was increased yesterday and they are immediately talking about an increase.
"When about two months ago I asked the question, why for instance petrol at the pump and home heating oil was not coming down as a result of the weakened dollar, we were told that all these things take months. But the minute it becomes the other trend it can be immediate.”
