Disabled 'face housing crisis'
11/05/2004 - 19:31:01The disabled are facing a serious housing crisis according to the Disability Federation of Ireland.
The DFI has said that up to a thousand young chronic sick people are in need of accommodation.
Those who are forced to stay in hospital are being labelled "bed blockers".
Chief Executive of the DFI John Dolan has said community support is lacking and public services have failed people.
Mr Dolan said: "These chronic issues are not because of resources, it is primarily because public services have failed to include part of the public.
"If the Government is serious about dealing with the issue of disability they should start planning to deliver services to these people."
