Leeds players on the move

04/05/2004 - 10:31:47
Player exits and caretaker manager Eddie Gray’s position will be the major talking points at a Leeds board meeting later today as the club begins preparations for its impending return to Division One.

Leeds’ humiliating defeat at Bolton on Sunday signalled the end of the Whites’ battle to stay in the Barclaycard Premiership and means massive changes are afoot at Elland Road.

There is the possibility of the club being taken over for the second time in as many months but first of all the current board have to decide on the immediate future of members of the playing staff.

Director and former Leeds great Peter Lorimer admitted the drop out of the top flight would have far-reaching consequences.

“It may bring the situation back into Nationwide wages,” he said.

“We have a massive squad, lots of players on massive money and we can’t afford that in the Nationwide so there obviously has to be some movement of players.

“Mark Viduka is on a very, very big wage so he has probably got to go. Alan Smith has said that Nationwide is no good for his career and we do appreciate that.”
