Croke Park to host talks on proposed EU constitution

04/05/2004 - 07:46:48
Senior officials from the 25 EU member states are due to meet in Croke Park today for talks on the proposed EU constitution.

The officials are expected to discuss a new draft of the document that includes changes agreed informally before the collapse of negotiations last December.

The draft is designed to narrow the areas of disagreement before EU foreign ministers resume formal negotiations on the constitution in two weeks’ time.

Reports this morning said the latest changes deal with lower-level issues and do not affect the most contentious areas – the size and composition of the European Commission and the definition and scope of qualified majority voting.
