An Post embroiled in letter boxes row
04/05/2004 - 15:36:50An Post has been accused of blackmailing rural communities into accepting roadside letter boxes, despite their own studies which indicate that there is no basis for the scheme.
Irish Rural Link, a group lobbying for community development, has said An Post have indicated that they will reduce the number of deliveries per week if the proposal for roadside boxes is not accepted.
National co-ordinator with the group Séamus Boland claims the move to install boxes would disadvantage rural communities and would not help An Post either.
Mr Boland has said: "From what I understand their financial problems are much greater than the provision of boxes."
