Cat Laughs get ready for 10th anniversary
Ten of Ireland's top comedians launched the Murphy’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival today.
The festival is back for this June Bank Holiday weekend. The 10th Murphy’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, which returns to Kilkenny from June 3 to June 7, was officially launched by 10 of Ireland’s finest comedians in Dublin today.
US favourites Dom Irrera and Rich Hall once again join the party along with legendary US funnyman Emo Philips, who was first on the bill back in 1995.
Ireland’s contingent once again reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ with Tommy Tiernan, Ardal O’Hanlon, Barry Murphy, Ed Byrne, Jason Byrne, Owen O’Neill, Deirdre O’Kane and Dara O’Briain all featuring.
Des Bishop, still riding high on the success of his RTE show ‘The Des Bishop Work Experience’, will no doubt be a popular figure along with Jon Kenny who first appeared solo at the inaugural Cat Laughs Festival in 1995 and makes a welcome return to the stage in 2004.
UK comedians on the invitation list this year include Perrier Award winner Daniel Kitson, the outstanding Boothby Graffoe and the ever-popular Jimmy Carr.
Jeff Green makes a welcome return along with Sean Lock, Milton Jones and Scotland’s Phil Kay and Fred MacAuley.
Caroline Rhea, the Canadian comic best known as ‘Aunt Hilda Spellman’ from television’s ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ is also set to weave a bit of magic on her festival debut.
Festival Director Richard Cook and Co-Director Lynn Cahill, who founded the festival in 1995, said they were delighted that the Murphy’s Cat Laughs had reached it 10th birthday and were looking forward to 10 more years.
