Hughes hoping for Chester comeback
01/05/2004 - 11:04:59Richard Hughes hopes to be back in the saddle by the middle of next week to allow him to ride at Chester’s May meeting, which gets underway on Wednesday.
The jockey had expected to be out of action for three weeks after puncturing a lung when falling in the Tiger Best Bitter Handicap at Leicester last Saturday.
However, Hughes’ recovery has progressed well and he told the Daily Star: “I am improving all of the time and the last couple of days have been particularly good.
“If that rate of progress continues then I hope to make Chester. I will know better by Monday what the situation is, but I am hopeful of making it.
“I won’t go for a full book of rides, though. I don’t want to overdo things and you can only ride if everything is OK.”
