Taoiseach due to raise symbolic EU flag
01/05/2004 - 17:01:14The Taoiseach has spent the afternoon receiving 27 heads of state and government at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
The highlight of the EU ceremonies will take place shortly after 5.30pm when Mr Ahern raises a symbolic flag at Aras an Uachtarain to formally confirm the enlarged European Union.
The Taoiseach will raise a flag as a symbolic gesture that the 10 new member states have joined the EU.
Our Nobel prize winning poet Seamus Heaney will also recite a poem especially written for the occasion and the Taoiseach is expected to say a few words.
Then the visiting heads of state will retire to Farmleigh for a special gala banquet.
