Man drove around with teenager's body in windshield - court
A man in Canada who struck a teenager and drove around with the boy’s body lodged in his car’s windshield has been jailed for three and a half years.
Gilles Francoeur, 60, pleaded guilty in December to leaving the scene of an accident in the death of Nicolas Fortin, 18.
Nicolas was found lodged in a windshield after he and two friends were struck outside a bar in Ste-Adele, Quebec, north of Montreal.
During a recent sentencing hearing, Francoeur said he felt a violent impact while driving home on the night of August 16, 2003. He said his windshield broke and he saw something on the passenger seat, but assumed it was the airbag that deployed.
He said it was only when he went home and then went out again that he realised a dead body was stuck in the windshield.
Police had initially charged Francoeur with drunken driving but dropped the allegation during plea bargaining.
