Martin considering inter-hospital helicopter service

Health Minister Micheál Martin has revealed that is considering the possibility of establishing a cross-border helicopter service to transfer patients between hospitals throughout the island of Ireland.

A study into the feasibility of such a service found that it would costs €12m to establish and would have annual operating costs of around €4m for a single helicopter.

The study, which was published today, was commissioned by Mr Martin and his counterpart in the North.
