Independent report on e-voting system to be published today
30/04/2004 - 08:23:27The Electronic Voting Commission is due to publish an independent report today into the accuracy and secrecy of the electronic voting machines due to be used in the upcoming local and European elections.
The commission has been investigating concerns about the machines for two months and the Government has vowed to accept and implement its findings and recommendations.
The Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition is planning to introduce electronic voting nationwide at the June 11 elections, but could be forced to row back on the plans if the commission finds fault with the system.
