Concluding Aintree race goes to His Nibs
02/04/2004 - 17:52:17The concluding Martell Cognac Somerfield Handicap Hurdle went the way of the Venetia Williams-trained His Nibs, ridden by Joe Tizzard.
The jockey, who picked up the ride as a spare because of an injury to Sam Thomas, kept his powder dry until late in the race and only went on at the final flight.
Irish challenger Keepatem stayed on to take second, but was two lengths behind the 14-1 winner.
Ollie Magern did the majority of the donkey work but came home unplaced, while Strong Project and Legal Lunch filled the third and fourth spots.
Richard Johnson walked away after a fall from the gambled-on 6-1 favourite Willie John Daly, who brought down Claymore and Bow Strada on the final circuit.
