Taoiseach disappointed with Finucane inquiry delay

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has expressed his disappointment at the British government’s decision to delay a public inquiry into the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane.

Downing Street announced plans to establish inquiries into four controversial murders yesterday, but said the Finucane inquiry could not be held until criminal proceedings relating to the case had been completed.

Mr Ahern said he was disappointed with the delay, but he added that he was heartened by the British government’s commitment to establish one as soon as possible.
