Govt face criticism on disability actions
02/04/2004 - 13:22:48The National Disability Authority has called on the Government to provide disabled children with the essential services that they are entitled to.
The authority has criticised the Government for forcing the parents of such children to take legal action to secure services for their children.
Policy adviser, Donie O’Shea, said: “We have to move from this situation where people have to go to the courts in order to get their rights for their children.”
The National Disability Authority claimed the Government had spent more than €13m on legal costs and damages to the parents of children with disabilities since 1998.
