Put the Cat Out
The Cat in the Hat
Director: Bo Welch
Cast: Mike Myers, Alec Baldwin, Kelly Preston, Spencer Breslin, Sean Hayes, Dakota Fanning
Cert: PG.
Based on the children’s books by Dr Seuss, one of those dreadful men who thought they knew better than the rest of us how our children should be raised, this is a very bad, bad, bad film of loud vulgarity and no wit.
Mike Myers, playing the cat who arrives, in a striped top-hat, to disrupt a kiddies’ party and lives, is his customary high-energy self, OTT in every move he makes, annoyingly unsympathetic and never for a moment funny.
This is an over-coloured, thinly-written, poorly performed load of stale MoggieDins which should be put down.
Those of us whose lives are constantly enriched by cats should apologise to them for foisting such rubbish on our fellow-humans. Luckily, cats will understand and forgive us.
